
The Electronics portion of the project consist of 3 circuit boards shown Below
The Main board that consists of the PIC 16F876 microcontroller running at 20 MHz and the MCP2150 IrDA translator chip.
The motor controller board connects to the main board. It can control two DC motors (stop, clockwise, counter-clockwise)
The Infrared transceiver connects to the main board and enables communication with the PDA.
If the PDA is wirelessly enabled then it can be controlled remotely by any computer on the network. PDA Robot attempts to connect to the control software via a socket and listens for commands.
The Sharp GP2D12 Infrared Range Finder acts allows the Robot to avoid obstacles autonomously, see at night and aid in navigation should the video link quality degrade.
